What Are Veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin layer of material that a dentist puts on top of your tooth. Dental veneers can change the shape, size, color, or length of your teeth to give you the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
What Veneers Help:
- Misshapen, misaligned, and uneven teeth
- Discolored teeth that can’t be whitened
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Gapped teeth
Benefits of Porcelain veneers:
- Don’t stain as easily as natural teeth
- Natural-looking surface
- Less enamel loss than with bonding or crowns
How Are Veneers Placed
Placing your veneers will typically take two office visits. At Chicago Veneers, we provide a teeth whitening procedure before your veneers are placed. Your tooth will then be prepared for the placement of your brand new, beautiful smile. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth to ensure that your veneers fit properly. While your veneers are being made specially for you in a lab, you may be fitted with temporary veneers.
During your second visit, the temporary veneers will be removed, your teeth will be cleaned, and your dentist will permanently affix your veneers to the surface of your teeth.
Types of Veneers
Different materials can be used based on your individual needs in terms of strength and color. Your dentist will recommend the material that is most appropriate for you.
Zirconia has increased strength when the tooth is minimally prepared. That is, when a tooth has less enamel removed. Zirconia veneers are a great choice for covering up extreme staining.
Because Lumineers are strong and used in thin layers, often less enamel needs to be removed. Lumineers are a great choice for minor changes.
Direct veneers, or direct composite bonding, is a cost-effective alternative to veneers and Lumineers. This can often be accomplished with no removal of enamel.
How to Take Care of Your Veneers
Taking care of your veneers is as simple as taking care of your natural teeth. You will need to return to the office after one week for a follow-up evaluation. You will also need to return for regular teeth cleanings and check-ups.
In some cases, long-term maintenance may be required to ensure the lasting quality and appearance of your veneers. A nightguard is often recommended, and at Chicago Veneers, we provide one with the cost of your veneers.
